Arzon

Arzon ( Breton: Arzhon - Rewiz ) is a commune with 2107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the district Vannes and Canton Sarzeau. Residents Arzonais and Arzonaises call themselves.

Geography

The village lies on the Rhuys Peninsula and is bordered to the north by the Gulf of Morbihan and in the south of the bay of Quiberon. To the east is the town of Saint -Gildas -de- Rhuys. The municipality covers 8.93 km ².

History

Already in the year 836 there was in Arzon a rectory, which belonged to the abbey of Redon. However, roads from the Roman period show already from an earlier settlement.

Accessible is the place on the secondary road D780 which leads as Boulevard de la Résistance and Rue du General de Gaulle to the berth of Port Navalo. One important industry is tourism, so there are eg two campgrounds ( Tindo in Kerner and Port Sable near the Port Navalo ) and in addition to the berths still the big marinas Port du Crouesty.

Attractions

  • The attractions of Arzon include the remains of a medieval fortress (Fort ) and the lighthouse at the end of the peninsula. At church buildings in particular the chapel of St. Nicolas in the district Kerner is ( east from the center ) to mention.
  • The east-west oriented Allée couverte Grah - Niol is located near the Imp you Graniol ( road ) north of Arzon.
