Asa of Judah

Asa (Hebrew אסא ) was the third king of Judah, and reigned 41 years 913-873 BC

Asa was of the tribe of Judah, the son of King Abijah ( the only three years reigned ) and grandson of the more famous Rehoboam. His son was King Jehoshaphat ( 1 Chr 3:10).

Life

Unlike his father Asa remained - in spite of the powerful pagan kings round - the true monotheism. The first part of Asa's reign were marked by a strong religious revivalism. The altars of Baal and other idols were removed, and the invasion of the Ethiopians Army he learned a striker. The prophet Azariah encouraged Asa to stay in this good way. But in his last years in government - as the northern kingdom of Israel went to war against the southern kingdom of Judah - he acted in politically " smart " sense, but not pleasing to God. The prophet Hanani warned the king, however, who had him in jail. From this point, Asa changed his mind and rebelled against the faith.
