Ashanti (singer)
Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas ( born October 13, 1980 in Glen Cove, Long Iceland, New York) is an American singer, dancer, songwriter and actress.
Biography
At the age of six years, the daughter of a dance teacher and a singer in a local gospel choir began to sing. At the same time, she received a professional dance training at the Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Centre, helped her to participate in local TV talent shows. From an agent encounters, Ashanti joined later on, among others, at Carnegie Hall, in various music clips and the Disney television musical Polly.
At 14, she signed her first recording contract with Jive Records, but the co remains without consequences and Ashanti moving to Epic Records three years later. There she met Irv Gotti, producer and head of Murder Inc. sublabels know who decided to undertake the singer for his combo. As a result, Ashanti was their colleague to hear the end of 2001 for the first time as a chorus voice on the No. 1 single Always On Time Ja Rule; little later, rapper Fat Joe to convince her to his outcoupling What's Luv? to sing.
Following the success of both co-productions Ashanti published in the summer of 2002 their self-titled debut album. The first solo single Foolish became a worldwide hit and on first attempt the jump to No. 1 on the U.S. charts; there she stayed for 11 weeks and thus became the most successful single of the year. Then with a happy baby and was followed by two more successful extractions. The plate itself has sold over 6 million copies, however, and was awarded a Grammy in 2003.
Beginning of 2003 was heard again as a single feature for Ashanti Ja Rule ( Mesmerized ) and Fabolous ( Into You ) before their second album, Chapter II announced in the summer with the first extraction rock wit U. Both the plate and the singles taken from it could not come close to the success of the first work, however, are among the best-selling and - played releases of the year. With Ashanti 's Christmas of the year was followed by a Christmas album.
2004 their album Concrete Rose. The CD reached # 7 on the U.S. album charts and was certified platinum, but remained especially internationally far behind the expectations and was not further promoted by the hit Only U and the moderate success of the second single, Do not Let Them of Def Jam Records.
Ashanti devoted himself meanwhile acting. That same year, she appeared as a supporting actress in the Bollywood film Bride and Prejudice; with Coach Carter succeeded her in the spring of 2005, a blockbuster. Then she published with Collectables her first remix album.
2007 ended the singer recording their fourth studio album, The Declaration, which was released in spring 2008 and to which, inter alia with Babyface, Polow Da Don, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz, Dr. Dre and Robin Thicke worked. The first single is titled The Way That I Love You. Ashanti was romantically involved from 2003 until the end of 2012 with rapper Nelly.
Ashanti 2012 has a single called The Woman You Love, a feature Busta Rhymes published. It is the lead single from her upcoming album Braveheart.
