Ashburton railway station

The Ashburton railway station is a former railway station in the town of Ashburton in Devon, UK. He was the terminus of the branch line from Totnes.

History

The station was how the entire route, opened on 1 May 1872 the Buckfastleigh, Totnes and South Devon Railway. 1897, the route was taken over by the Great Western Railway, which was nationalized on 1 January 1948 to British Railways. The station was closed to passenger traffic in November 1958; freight traffic ended on September 7, 1962.

The Ashburton station was then taken briefly by the Dart Valley Railway, a heritage railway on April 5, 1969 back in service, but in 1971 finally closed when the distance between Ashburton and Buckfastleigh was needed for the expansion of the road A 38. Today, the South Devon Railway, a successor company of the Dart Valley Railway, nor the short piece between Totnes and Buckfastleigh operates.

The station today

Today, the former station building is used by an auto repair shop and is no longer recognizable after modifications as the train station. The former goods shed ( Lage50.513916666667 - 3.75475 ) is available as a Grade II building under monument protection.
