Asphyx

Asphyx (from gr asfixia, pulseless ' or engl. Asphyxiation, suffocation ') is a Death - Doom band from Oldenzaal (Netherlands).

History

The band was founded in 1987. After two demos and an EP Asphyx received a recording contract with Century Media. During the recordings to Last One on Earth was Martin van Drunen, the singer, although the band threw him without his knowledge, even before the release of the band. He took up the song without the rest of the band and, after completion of its work, the news of his expulsion. Due to internal band problems some members of Asphyx and Wannes Gubbels of Pentacle In 1996, the band Soul Burn. Her style was less brutal, simple, less technical and thus for the musicians less challenging than Asphyx. Under this name a demo and an album was released. A short time later, the members of Soul Burn used again the old name Asphyx what felt right for them. The band remained true to the label until dissolved.

Martin van Drunen was also active with Bolt Thrower and Pestilence, as well as a session singer of Sweden Comecon. Since 2003, Martin has worked as a singer at the German Death by Dawn.

On 10 January 2007 the reunion of the band was officially announced at the Party San festival website with the following cast: Martin van Drunen on vocals, Wannes Gubbels ( Pentacle also ) and Bunkur on bass and vocals, Paul on guitar and Baayens Bob Bagchus on drums. With this lineup, the band performed at the Party San 2007.

After the band in 2008 had several appearances ( including at the Rock Hard Festival ), she published in 2009 her eighth studio album, Death the Brutal Way, which is also the first studio album with Martin van Drunen for 17 years.

Early 2010 had Wannes Gubbles left the band because of disputes over the future musical direction: Gubbles wanted to bring in more modern elements in the style of the band, the rest of the group, however, wanted to keep the classic Asphyx style. His successor was Alwin Zuur.
