Associação Naval 1º de Maio

The Naval 1 º de Maio ( Full: Associação Naval 1 º de Maio ) is the nation's fourth- oldest existing sports club from the Portuguese city of Figueira da Foz. In addition to the departments rowing, shooting sports and beach soccer the professional football department is the most important activity of the Association. The greatest football success the club's history are the semi-finals in the Portuguese Cup competition in season 2002/ 03 as well as the promotion to the 1st League in the season 2004/05.

History

The club Naval 1 º de Maio was founded as a workers' club deliberately on 1 May 1893 the direct successor of the disbanded " Associação Naval Figueirense ". It was indeed primarily aimed at " nautical sports ," but in addition to the significant rudder section and swimming activities were then also gymnastics, weight lifting, roller skating, Greek - Roman wrestling, shooting, basketball, dancing and also just football.

For a long time played the football team in the second and third division in Portugal. There, the team initially played against relegation before the season 2009/10 with the eighth place in the table achieved the best result of the previous club history. The 2010/11 season the club finished in 16th place and got down to the second division ( Segunda Division). After financial problems and re- descent of the club played in the 2013/14 season in the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores, the third division.
