Athletics at the 1900 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 metres

The 100 - meter race of men at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 was held on July 14, 1900 in the Bois de Boulogne. It was attended by a total of 20 athletes. The preliminary round was divided into six runs, each with three or four athletes. The best two of every run, reached the semifinals three of four participants. It reached each now and the finale during the second and third place winners in a repechage had to run again for a place in the final.

Preliminary round

Duffey was about a meter in front of Moloney to the finish.

Tewksbury won prominence with 15 centimeters.

The fastest preliminary round was led by two traded as a medal candidate in advance runners. Jarvis won with one meter lead and set a world record.

Leiblee won with just under one meter lead.

The fifth lead was the only one in which no American won, but Pritchard with half a meter ahead.

In this flow only started Americans. Burroughs defeated Boardman with a meter lead. Slack was the only American who was eliminated in the first round.

Semifinal

Duffey beat his personal best in the heats by 0.4 seconds. He won by five feet ahead of Rowley.

Tewksbury presented a world record and won with 15 cm lead. It is disputed whether the German Kurt Dörry took to the race or not, it is certain that he did not reach the target.

Jarvis won the third semi-final with just one meter lead.

Repechage

The entire field of participants was close together, so that Rowley was able to gain advantage with only five centimeters.

Final

Initially led Duffey, but at about 50 meters, he suffered a tendon strain, so that he had to quit the race. Jarvis won with half a meter ahead of Tewksbury and Rowley, who was behind another meter.
