Atyrau Province

The area Atyrau ( kasach. Атырау облысы / Atyrau oblysy, Russian Атырауская область / Atyrauskaja oblast ) is one of the 14 regions of Kazakhstan and is located in the west of the country. It has an area of ​​approximately 118,600 km ² and 556,000 inhabitants. On 21 February 1992 it was renamed Gurjev (Russian name of its capital ), as the area was called since its founding in 1938, in Atyrau.

Geography

The area adjacent to the administrative regions in the north western Kazakhstan, Aktobe in the east and Mangghystau in the extreme south, and the Caspian Sea to the southwest, and Russia to the west. Capital is the city of Atyrau at the mouth of the Ural Mountains into the Caspian Sea. The western part of the area is thus in Europe.

The area Atyrau mainly comprises the depression of the Caspian basin. It is mainly sandy desert (especially in the West) as well as other desert species covered.

On the north east coast of the Caspian Sea, east of Atyrau, the rich oil fields of Tengiz and Embafelder are near the mouth of the river Emba. This southern district is mostly marshy, as the water level of the Caspian Sea varies.

Flora and Fauna

The Atyrau area has an abundance of wildlife. It has 39 species of mammals: In addition to the common rodents, there are many predators, including wolf, steppe fox, wild cats and weasels, and ungulates such as the Persian gazelle and saiga. There are otters, rats, snakes, snakes, lizards and amphibians. The presence of 53 species of marine fish and 42 species of river fish, also hiking and semi- migratory fish species. Caspian fish are sturgeon, shaving, Salmon and White Salmon. In the rivers there are catfish, carp, pike and zander. From the Far East, the white carp and white amur are " immigrated. The Caspian seal lives since time immemorial in the Caspian Sea and has well adapted to local conditions. In the spring the seals migrate south and spend the summer in deeper and colder waters of the Caspian Sea. They often form large colonies in winter consisting of tens of thousands of animals.

Particularly rich is the area of birds - 230 species there are, including rare and endangered.
