Aubrey Mather

Aubrey Mather ( born December 17, 1885 in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, † January 16, 1958 in London) was a British theater and film actor.

Life

Aubrey Mather began in 1905 his acting career on stage in Britain. His London stage debut in 1909, he celebrated in the play Brewster 's Millions. Ten years later, he appeared on Broadway for the first time in The Luck of the Navy. Over the years he appeared there in Shakespearean plays, such as 1936 as Polonius in Hamlet or in 1950 in As You Like It.

From 1930 he played with in a number of British films, as well as in a small supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Sabotage ( 1936). In the 1940s, Mather also worked in Hollywood, where he often played in small character roles the butler, as in Mervyn LeRoy's film drama found years ( Random Harvest, 1942) in addition to Ronald Colman and Greer Garson or in Jack Conway's comedy film The Greyhound and the Lady ( The Hucksters, 1947) with Clark Gable and Deborah Kerr. In 1954 he retired from show business.

Aubrey Mather died in 1958 at the age of 72 years in London.
