August Freund

August friend ( born July 30, 1835 in Kenti, Galicia, † February 28, 1892 in Lviv ) was a Galician chemist.

He first learned and studied from 1856 Pharmacists Pharmacy in Lviv and Leipzig. After he received his doctorate in 1858, Dr. Phil, he was starting in the following year assistant to Leopold of Pebal and professor at the Realschule. In 1861 he became a teacher at the high school in Tarnopol and 1869 in Lviv. In 1872 he became a full professor of chemistry at the Polytechnic Institute in Lvov, whose rector he was later also.

He worked in the field of organic chemistry to naphtha and ketone syntheses, discovered the trimethylene ( cyclopropane ) and developed in 1881 is named after him cyclopropane synthesis.
