August Högn

August Högn ( born August 2, 1878 in Deggendorf, † December 13, 1961 in Ruhmannsfelden ) was a German teacher, school principal, composer and local historian.

Life

August Högn was born as the middle child of five children of the bookbinder married couple Andrew and Helene Högn. Young August learned to play the piano. His musical abilities, he was able to make up for the training of teachers at the Präparandenschule in Deggendorf (1891-1894) and at the College of Education in Straubing ( 1894-1896 ). As a young teacher Högn been to several places in Lower Bavaria offset ( Deggendorf, Neukirchen ( Lower Bavaria ), Schaufling, Geratskirchen, Zeilarn, Waller village and Eberhard Reuth ). 1904 married Högn in Waller village his wife Emma Gerstl. From this marriage two children were born. 1910 Högn was transferred to Ruhmannsfelden, where he lived until his death.

In the Third Reich Högn was involved in the political events as a community group leader, sub-group leader and lecturer for "Protection of Volksguts ". He was influenced by his son and Nazi mayor of Bayreuth, Karl Schlumprecht. 1945 Högn, who was headmaster since 1921, since 1929 senior teacher and since 1940 Rector of the elementary school Ruhmannsfelden was suspended due to the de-Nazification of the teaching profession. After a short training purposes, in 1947 the same year he went into retirement. In 1953 he suffered a stroke, who had a unilateral paralysis. August Högn was buried in Deggendorf.

Services

From 1926 to 1929 several local history written by Högn newspaper article appeared. In retirement, he wrote three major local history essays.

From his 20th to his 76th year Högn worked as a singer, organist and choirmaster in several church choirs of the two dioceses of Passau and Regensburg. In Ruhmannsfelden he worked for 43 years, primarily as an organist and in three phases as choirmaster. His numerous sacred works are mainly originated in the times when he was choirmaster in Ruhmannsfelden. 1898 was his first and his last in 1960 obtained composition. 1905 his march was " In Treue fest! " Laid.
