History
Is mentioned in a document in 1126 Neukirchen first time in a monastery deed of gift of the monastery Oberalteich under the name, Niuenchirichen '. Neukirchen belonged to Rentamt Straubing and the district court Mitterfels of the Electorate of Bavaria.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1976, the then independent municipality Obermühlbach that had more inhabitants than Neukirchen, incorporated.

Culture and sights
- Neukirchen is a nationally recognized resort. Worth mentioning are the circle fruit teaching garden with fruit trail and also the nature trail Perlbachtal next to the bicycle-and hiking trails.
- The parish church of St. Martin is a late baroque complex with equipment from the time it was built in the 18th century.
- In Pürgl is the branch church of St. Pauli conversion, an epiphany from the year 1712.
