August von Pelzeln

August Pelzel of Pelzeln ( born May 10, 1825 Prague, † September 2, 1891 in Oberdöbling ) was an Austrian ornithologist. He collected 40 years mammal and bird specimens for the Imperial Museum of Vienna.

Biography

August von Pelzeln was the grandson of the Austrian poet Caroline Pichler ( 1769-1843 ). His sister Marie was a writer. After the completion of the Scots high school he studied at the University of Vienna Law and then worked in the civil service at Regional Office in Vienna. In 1851 he became an assistant of Karl Moriz Diesing Helminthologen in the yard and Natural Resources Cabinet. In 1857 he took over from Johann Jakob Heckel the position of curator and held that position until 1888.

From 30 April 1857 to August 30, 1859 to August was one of Pelzeln alongside Ferdinand von Hochstetter ( 1829-1884 ), Georg von Frauenfeld ( 1807-1873 ), Franz Steindachner ( 1834-1919 ), Ludwig Redtenbacher ( 1814-1876 ) and Johann Zelebor (1819-1869) to the scientists who took part in the Austrian frigate Novara circumnavigation of the.
