Augusto da Silva

Álvaro Augusto Cardinal da Silva ( born April 8, 1876 in Recife, Brazil, † August 14, 1968 in Salvador Bahia) was Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia.

Life

Álvaro Augusto da Silva received his philosophical and theological education in the seminary of Olinda. He received on 5 March 1899, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a parish pastor and cathedral - Zeremoniar in Olinda. Pope Pius X appointed him in 1911 as Bishop of Floresta, Pope Benedict XV. conferred on him in 1915 the leadership of the diocese of Barra do Rio Grande, Pope Pius XI. appointed him in 1924 as Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia. Pope Pius XII. took Augusto Álvaro da Silva on January 12, 1953 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria in the College of Cardinals to. He participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. Álvaro Augusto da Silva Cardinal died on 14 August 1968 in São Salvador da Bahia and was buried in the local cathedral.
