Roman Catholic Diocese of Pesqueira

The Diocese of Pesqueira (Latin: Dioecesis Pesqueirensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic diocese based in Pesqueira, Pernambuco state. It includes a part of the state.

History

Pope Pius X founded the bishopric Floresta on 5 December 1910 made cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Olinda, where it was assumed as a suffragan. On 2 August 1918, the Episcopal seat of Floresta was transferred to the Diocese of Pesqueira and adopted its current name.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • November 30, 1923 to the bishopric of Petrolina;
  • July 2, 1956 to the diocese Afogados because Ingazeira;
  • February 15, 1964 to the bishopric of Floresta.
