The ear flap mushrooms ( Auricularia ) is a fungal genus of the family of ear lobe fungal relatives.

The type species is the zoned ear lobes fungus ( Auricularia mesenteric ).

Features

The ear flaps fungi are characterized by fixed-or soft - gelatinous fruiting bodies, the resupinat ( with the top of the substrate adjacent ) fail to effuso - reflex ( halbresupinat ) or have an ear - to shell-shaped habit. The top is smooth to hairy tomentose, the bottom is smooth to wrinkled hymenium with veined ridges on.

Ecology

The members of the genus are Saprobionten or weakness parasites mainly on hardwoods.

Species

The exact number of species of the genus is unclear: Dörfelt called about 15, Krieglsteiner goes out of 9. The main distribution area is located in the tropics. In Germany two species occur.
