Avraham Burg

Avraham " Avrum " Burg (Hebrew אברהם בורג; born January 19, 1955 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli writer and former high-ranking politician of the Labour Party Avoda.

Policy

He served in the Israeli army as a lieutenant in the paratroopers. He then studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and earned a degree in social sciences.

Castle was Achschaw active in left-wing organizations such as Shalom. In 1983 he was on the Peace Now demonstration, was murdered at the Emil Green branch of the right-wing Jonah Avruschmi with a hand grenade. Castle was hurt by the splinters of this grenade. In 1985 he became an adviser to Prime Minister Shimon Peres.

In 1988 he was elected for the Labour Party in the Knesset. In 1995 he resigned his seat after he was appointed Chairman of the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization. 1999 to early 2003 was Castle Speaker of the Knesset. In this capacity he took between 13 July and 1 August 2000, the constitutional duties of the retiring President Ezer Weizmann true.

In 2001, he ran unsuccessfully for the presidency of the Labor Party.

In autumn 2003, attracted an article by Castle sensation, which first appeared in Jedi'ot Aharonot and has been translated among others into English and German. In this article castle ruled that Israel must give up its illusions and choose between racist oppression and democracy. He called for an Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories.

In 2004, Burg retired from politics. ( Defeat Hitler) In an interview with Haaretz in June 2007 on the occasion of the publication of his book Hitler et lenazeach he created a series of core theses of Zionism in question. In 2009 he published his book in German. Benny Morris called it a " terrible book full of errors," Micha Brumlik reading " for all who feel connected to Israel, almost a moral duty."

Family

Castle is the son of Josef Burg, Minister of several Israeli governments for the National Religious Party. He grew up in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Rehavia.

Petersburg woman Yael is French-born, a psychologist and director of a middle school in Jerusalem. The Burgs have six children and live in Nataf at Jerusalem.
