Ayrancı

Ayrancı is a town and a district in the Turkish province of Karaman. The town lies about 60 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital Karaman on the road D -350 of Karaman according Ereğli.

The district lies to the east of the province. It is bordered to the north and east by the province of Konya, on the south by the province of Mersin and in the west to the central district. The city lies on the River Ayrancı Koca Dere, which is dammed south of the city to the reservoir Ayrancı Baraji. In the north the plain of Ereğli ( Ereğli Ovasi ) is located in the south of the plain of Karaman ( Karaman Platosu ) and east of the 1280 meter high mountain Kozlu Dagi.

The village was founded in 1903 under the name of Osmaniye to settle ethnic Germans from the Crimea. The first Muhtar Hasan Efendi was Ceyhanlı. The name change to the present name was made in 1960. The name goes back to the legend of a " Ayran Dede ".
