Balblair is a whiskey distillery in Edderton, Ross -shire, Scotland. The kiln of the distillery is sorted in the Scottish monument lists in the C (S) category.

History

It was founded in 1790 by John Ross, making it the second oldest distillery, which is still in operation. The present structure dates from 1872 and was built by Alexander Ross. 1894, the distillery was sold to Alexander Cowan. From 1915 to 1947, the distillery was closed. The new owner, Robert Cumming - the later also belonged Pulteney - built from the distillery. In 1970 he sold it to Hiram Walker, the aufgingen later in Allied Distillers and Allied Domecq. In 1996 the distillery was closed again and at Inver House Distillers Ltd.. ( Pulteney, Speyburn, Knockdhu and Balmenach ) sold. Since May 1997 whiskey is produced again.

Production

The water belonging to the Highlands / Northern Highlands distillery dates from Ault Dearg burn, the malt used is taken from the Glen Ord Maltings. The distillery has a mash tun ( mash do ) ( 4.6 t ) of stainless steel, six fermentation tanks (wash backs) ( per 22,000 liters ) of Douglas fir wood, a wash still ( 19,093 liters) and a spirit still ( 11,044 l), the are heated by steam.
