Bandundu (city)

Province

Bandundu (formerly Banningville or Banningstad ) is the capital of the province of Bandundu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It has 117,200 inhabitants ( 2004) and is 400 km away from Kinshasa.

In Bandundu are no industrial enterprises and the inhabitants are employed either the state or the provincial administration, but live mostly of agriculture or micro trading. Tourist offer little town and surrounding areas.

Bandundu has a small airport and a small harbor on Kwilu, both of which are rarely served. The road link to Kinshasa is - for the ratios in the DR Congo - relatively good. Bandundu can only be reached by ferries across the Kwilu, the Kwango or the Kasai on the land, however.
