Barenberg (Schierke)

The Barenberg, formerly known as Bear Mountain or bear's head, is a 695.5 m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Harz in the district Schierke the town of Wernigerode in the district of Harz, Saxony -Anhalt ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The Barenberg rises in the Upper Harz ( Upper Harz ) in the Harz Nature Park / Saxony- Anhalt. It is located 1.3 km south-southeast of lying to the Cold Bode previous hut resort Schierke and about 1.5 km northwest of the past also on this river hamlet misery of the city Upper am Brocken.

In the north west the wooded landscape of the Barenbergs leads west over past Schierke to the Brocken ( 1141.1 m). A mountain or in the vicinity are the snoring explanation Ippen ( west-northwest ), the mice cliff ( north-west ) and the shear lips Stork ( west-southwest ).

In the northeast, east and southeast of the landscape of the Barenbergs falls into the lined cliffs and as a conservation area designated Elendstal ( NSG-Nr. 162 919 ) and the Kalte Bode from that at a point on the river between Schierke and misery measuring point ( 514.4 m) 181.1 m flows below the mountain summit.

Hiking and view option

The Barenberg can only be reached on forest and hiking trails, coming for example from Schierke or misery.

About 450 m south-southeast of the mountain summit, the viewing platform is located on the Barenberg (approx. 620 m; ⊙ 51.75031944444410.675266666667 ), which is included as No. 20 in the system of stamp locations of the Harz hiking pin and, for example, approximately from the direction of the mountain summit coming up a steep descent can be reached.
