Nature Spatial allocation

According to the manual nature of the spatial structure of Germany ( the former Institute for Regional Studies ) is one of the Barnacken to Eggegebirge, where, according to this definition, the second highest peak would be. Accordingly, the Strothe and B 1 are the limit for each directed to the south Eggegebirge or Western Eggevorland, which is east of Barnackens over the saddle of the Rhine -Weser watershed (see watershed and river ), the valley of pliers Bach (see this ) and thence north- westward across the crease Hagen ( 314.1 m), along the external stones and the subsequent Baerenstein ( 318.1 m) continues. With the bear stone north of Barnacken the main ridge of the harrow, which is easily moved here against the Bielefeld Osnings begins.

On the other assigns it to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN ) the Bielefeld Osning ( Osning is an old name of the Teutoburg Forest ), the southeast ridge of the Teutoburg Forest, in what corresponds to the orography, the popular classification and geographic location described above.

Watershed and river

The Barnacken is north of the Rhine -Weser watershed, which passes 6.5 km to the northwest in the Ems -Weser watershed. The water of all rivers that originate southwest of Barnackens leads, sooner or later into the lip and thus into the Rhine. On the other drains the northern flank of the Werre and the eastern flank of the Emmer to the Weser.

North of the Barnackens springs the Wiembecke which is fed by the east of the mountain running pliers Bach, northeastward flows through the horn and empties into the Werre inflow Berlebecke. A few kilometers east-southeast of the mountain flows beyond the Silberbachtals the silver stream that runs north- eastward over Veldrom after Leopoldstal and empties into the Emmer inflow Heubach. At the south-east in Eggegebirge situated width neck, beyond the B 1 (see transport links ) arises, the Thune ( in the upper reaches Strothe called ) which passes through the southern slopes of the Barnackens and extends northeast-southwest direction along the B 1 and further to the southwest in the lip opens.

Orographically is located on the B1 between the villages of snakes with the Strothetal and horn with the Zangenbachtal saddle of the watershed, which here reaches 319.8 meters above sea level, the lowest well- notch, as the ridge to the northwest for at least 7 km, to the south remains even for more than 30 km above this height.
