Barnet is a municipality (town ) in Caledonia County of the State of Vermont in the United States.

The community consists of five individual settlements: Barnet Village, East Barnet, East Barnet, McIndoe Falls and Passumpsic. The 1,708 inhabitants ( according to the census of 2010 ) live primarily on agriculture; large industrial firms are unknown. Since the late 1990s, tourism is promoted in the area.

The municipality is situated on the border with the U.S. state of New Hampshire; the main settlement Barnet Village is located directly on the banks of the Connecticut River. Two other rivers run through the area and discharge into the Connecticut River: the Passumpsic River and the Stevens River. They drain the local Ostausläufer of Vermont's Green Mountains, which are separated from Connecticut by the rougher White Mountains of New Hampshire. In the area of Barnet Green Mountains form the three significant hills: Mountain Barnet, Barnet Center and Garland Hill.

Barnet was in 1763 proclaimed to colonize, then still a part of New Hampshire. The settlement did not begin until 1770 and was completed in several stages until 1773 in the Broad. The area of Barnet has been awarded to 67 people; of them belonged to nine of the Stevens family, who built a water mill. According to their origin, Barnet, Hertfordshire, Great Britain, the town was named in 1807, when the post office in the capital of Stevens Village, was opened today Barnet Village. The river, which was the water mill, became the Stevens River.
