Burke is a municipality (town ) in Caledonia County of the State of Vermont in the United States with 1,753 inhabitants ( according to the census of 2010 ) ..

It is located in the north-east of the Green Mountains, about 40 miles south of the Canadian border and about 35 kilometers west of the Connecticut River. In the field of community Burke there are three main settlements: the administrative center of West Burke, the tourist center East Burke at the foot of Burke Mountain and the settlement Burke Hollow, located on the road between the other two towns, and the only school in the community beheimatend.

For colonization proclaimed in 1780, Burke was only in 1792 actually made arable. The first public building stood on a hill above the present Burke Hollow and at the same time contained the church, school and meeting room. However, the hill quickly turned out to be too stormy for a settlement, so that a new town, Burke Hollow, was built in the valley. From there, the other two settlements of the velvet municipality emerged: West Burke at a crossroads, at the foot of East Burke Burke Mountain. Originally, this was the largest of the three villages, but this changed with the West Burke's connection to the railway network of Connecticut and Passumpsic Rivers Railroad. The station was a good location for the timber loading in a wide radius. With the advent of tourism in Vermont late 19th century West Burke became the starting point for those seeking relaxation at two nearby large lakes. In 1909, tourism has developed in East Burke in connection with the forest area on the Burke Mountain. 1931 died Mr. Darling, the owner of large tracts of land on and around the Burke Mountain and bequeathed it to the State. In these areas, the Darling State Park was established, which mainly offers in addition to four tents and a hut village to the alpine ski resort Burke Mountain developed as a tourist destination.

This Christian community life is marked by branches of the United Church of Christ and the Methodists. A central school in Burke Hollow offers classes from kindergarten through eighth grade; Libraries in West Burke and in East Burke and the Historical Society supplement public life in the integrated municipality.
