Band History

Basic idea of ​​the band's formation &

The bassist Olli -Pekka Laine, who was a founding member of Amorphis had, but these 2000 left again and looked for other bands, whose music he - felt reconnected - as opposed to Amorphis. He was the drummer Marko Tarvonen met at Chaos Breed, who was in turn successfully with the band Moonsorrow. Laine had many new ideas for songs that he wanted to put in a new tape and had Tarvonen to persuade to build this new band together.

Laine and Tarvonen had been about 2005, together with the future keyboardist Kasper Mårtenson already worked in a music project that ' The Camel Gang' was called.

Together with Mårtenson on keyboards Janne Perttilä rose as a guitarist ( Perttilä had participated in live performances of Moonsorrow ). After the general idea in late 2006 came it was, however, until the end of 2007 the band was formed.

When the first song plans already in existence, was still missing a lead guitarist, but was then with Sami Yli- Sirniö Kreator found. When it was in 2008 in the studio recording the first four songs could still be recovered as a singer Mikko Kotamäki from Swallow the Sun.

Contract & Recording

After the contract was signed with Peaceville Records came in 2009, then finally in the Seawolf Studios, Helsinki Jukka varmo the first recordings for the first album. Other recordings were then transferred to the Jive Studio. Dan Swäno ( Opeth / Katatonia ) of the Unisound Studios took over the mixing and audio mastering.

Debut

The debut album should be available in early 2010. Already in November 2009 already came out an EP called Our Twilight with 4 tracks that did not show up on one of the songs on the album. Shortly thereafter, Barren Earth already had its debut gig at Dante 's Highlight in the hometown of the band. Around the time the title Curse of the Red River was chosen for the first album. The artwork was created by Travis Smith, who also previously worked for Opeth and Katatonia.

Tour & further

Towards the middle / end of 2010, a tour was planned at which they mainly played in the U.S. and Canada, but including in Germany at the Summer Breeze festival.

Since all members from existing, well-known bands emerge, Barren Earth can also be referred to as a super group.

On 31 May 2011 website, it was announced that the band in Helsinki with Jukka varmo are wiedermal in the studio on the Barren Earth. This time the recordings are made in Sonic Pump studio and mixed it wiedermal by Dan Swanö, who played in bands like Edge of Sanity or Katatonia. About Peaceville Records is the second Barren Earth album to be released in the fall of 2011. The cover art is but this time designed by Paul Romano, who has worked for Mastodon, Hate Eternal, The Red Chord and Trivium.

Music style

The genre can be generally referred to as Progressive Death Metal. The band itself describes it as a mixture of modern and traditional Death Metal with influences from progressive rock and folk of the 70s. As an influence to bands be enumerated as Paradise Lost, Opeth, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and also some pioneers of Finnish progressive rock.
