Barrou

Barrou is a commune with 506 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Indre- et- Loire in the Centre region; it belongs to Arrondissement hole and the District of Le Grand- Pressigny.

Geography

Barrou is located on a river loop of the Creuse, about 20 kilometers east of Chatellerault and 60 kilometers south of Tours. The terrain in the 30.71 km ² of the municipal area rises from Creusetal in a northeasterly direction gradually and reached on a forest-covered plateau ( Bois des Cours ) at 146 m above sea level the highest point. Neighboring communities of Barrou are Abilly in the north, Le Grand- Pressigny in the northeast, Chaumussay in the east, in the southeast Chambon, Lésigny in the south and La Guerche in the northwest.

Attractions

  • Ruined remains of the former Commandery of the Knights Templar Epinat from the early 14th century. By 1600, the Commandery was abandoned. Some additions to the monastery grounds date from the 17th century.
  • Tower of the castle Courtis ( Le château of Courtis ) from the year 1698 - it was a fief of the barony of Preuilly -sur- Claise.
  • Church of St. Mauritius ( Église Saint- Maurice) (. 18th/19th century, reconstructed in 1926 )
