Baseball World Cup

The Baseball World Cup was an international baseball tournament between national teams, the ( IBAF ) has been aligned with national associations from the International Baseball Federation. It fandt every two years in odd-numbered years instead of annual figures. Last World Champion is the selection of Netherlands that could decide the 2011 tournament in Panama for themselves.

Significance of the event

Although the Baseball World Cup was held with the support of the World Federation, it receives little public attention. History

The originally transmitted as ordinary international tournaments competitions before the Second World War were collected retrospectively to world championships, the first world championship was thus born in 1938. After initially annual sweeps you went on to a four -year cycle in the 1960s. In 1973 there were two world championships, after the world governing body of amateur baseball had split off from the IBAF. Record champion was the team of Cuba, who won 25 titles in 30 participations.

Mode

In recent tournaments, there were two phases: a continental qualification phase and a final round, which was attended by 16 national teams. In the final round two groups played eight teams from the participants in the quarterfinals. This was followed by semi-finals and finals. Unlike most national championships this finals consisted of only one game.

The 2009 tournament was divided into three rounds and the final phase: In the first round, 20 teams played in five groups in Barcelona, Zagreb, Regensburg, Stockholm and Prague each a round-robin round. The best two teams of each group and the four best third- placed of all groups played in Italy and the Netherlands into two groups depending again a round-robin round. Italy and the Netherlands intervened in the tournament in the second round. The top four teams in a group then played in the third round against the four best-placed of the other group. After that, the winners played in a game from the world champion, second place, played for the bronze medal and the third and fourth games of both groups to the courts.

2011, two groups were formed to 8 teams again. The four best of each group qualified for the second round. There is also a round-robin tournament was held. The two best teams played at the end of the world title.
