The Batajnica airport, alternatively airport Nova Pazova (Serbian: Аеродром Батајница / Aerodrome Batajnica ) located in Serbia between villages Batajnica and Nova Pazova, about 25 kilometers northwest of the capital Belgrade.

The airport is currently mainly used for military purposes by the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence and is the only Serbian airport with two asphalt start and runways.

History

With the construction of the airport for the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence was started in 1947. In 1951 the work was completed and officially opened the airport. Reason of the construction was the defense of the capital Belgrade against foreign air strikes.

In order to curb the opportunities for intervention by the Yugoslav Air Force during the NATO attacks on the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, was the military airfield flown 25 operations and the associated bombing, one of the most angriffenen targets during the war.

With the landing of two F -16 multi-role combat aircraft USAFE in June 2006, ended after more than 20 years back officially U.S. fighter jets on Serbian soil. This invitation Serbia is seen as a rapprochement of the armed forces and founded as a new beginning of military cooperation between the two countries. From 9 to March 13, 2009 visited the U.S. Air Force to the airport again, and again got to work on better relations in the foreground.

Today, the airport is mainly used by the Serbian Air Force and also acts over and over again to host air shows, such as 2009 for the Air Serbia. In addition, it is planned, the airport in the future to use for civil aviation, which is located for several years in Fokos. The airport could then serve as some planning, as the cost airport of the city of Belgrade, like for example Frankfurt Hahn to Frankfurt. Several Billi airlines such as Air Berlin, EasyJet, Jet2, Thomsonfly and German Wings have already shown interest in this project.
