Bătrâna

Batrana or old spelling Batrina [ bətrɨna ] ( German Altendorf, Hungarian Batrina ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

Geographical location

The municipality is located in a mountainous landscape Batrana in southwestern Transylvania in the north of the Poiana Rusca - Mountains. Located in the historic chair district Marosillye - today Ilia - the Hunyader county (county iron market ), in the west of the circle Hunedoara is the place Batrana on the county road (Drum Judetean ) DJ 688 about 60 km ( 25 km distance) southwest of the district capital Deva ( Deva ) away.

The eingemeindeten villages can be reached mostly on dirt roads from the community center.

History

The place Batrana was first mentioned in documents in 1750. Because of the difficult living conditions in several incorporated villages also caused by lack of electricity, unpaved roads, no running water, the younger population has left the place more and more, so that here the majority of older people live. Although the three eingemeindeten villages had no electricity ( hoping to get 2012 ), 2010 was moved here internet.

The local church Batrana situated in the middle of a cemetery, is the only church on the site of the community. Although Batrana has a cemetery, here the dead are buried in the garden near the house.

The main occupation of the population is agriculture and livestock, especially sheep and cattle.

Population

At the official survey of 1850 lived on the territory of the present municipality of 640 people. 633 of them were Romanians and seven were Roma. The highest population ( 725, three of them described themselves as German ) - and at the same time the Romanians ( 722) - was reached in 1910. The highest population of the Magyars ( 46), and the Roma ( 8) in 1966, which reached the German Romania ( 5), 1941. In addition, in 1966, 17 inhabitants identified as Ukrainians and ten inhabitants as Serbs. Since 1910, a lot of the population steadily so that in 2002 the municipality Batrana 175 Romanians were registered.

The community Batrana with its 124 inhabitants ( 2012) in second place, as regards the depopulation in Romania. Since 2010 is being considered because of the steadily declining population number on the merger with the community Dobra.
