Battle of Fallen Timbers

The Battle of Fallen Timbers between North American Indians and the United States troops took place on August 20, 1794 just north of the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee River in western Ohio.

The fighters of the Indians consisted of an alliance of Anishinabe, Ottawa, Potawatomi, Shawnee, and Mingo Delawares that were led by the Shawnee chief Weyapiersenwah ( Blue Jacket ) and the Lenni Lenape - chief Buckongahelas. It was the hitherto strongest fighting force of the North American Indians.

In a series of uprisings, which were believed to have been initiated by the British, the Indians had previously made ​​some major victories over U.S. forces. When they saw, however, are faced with a whole army, they offered no effective resistance. The U.S. troops led by General Anthony Wayne destroyed the Indian organizations. Then pushed forward along the Maumee River and destroyed villages and fields of the natives.

The defeat meant that the Indians signed the Treaty of Greenville.
