Battle of New Ross (1643)

The Battle of New Ross (English Battle of New Ross, Irish Cath Ros Mhic Thriúin ) was a minor skirmish of the Irish Konföderationskriegs in 1643 north of the town of New Ross in the southeast of Ireland. In the battle the English army defeated the Irish under James Butler Konföderationstruppen under Thomas Preston.

James Butler reached from Dublin from New Ross to besiege the local garrison. Since Butler saw no way for a success of his efforts after some time of the siege, he ended the siege and wanted to return to Dublin via the Blackstairs Mountains. On the way he met the troops of Thomas Preston. After brief fighting, Irish soldiers lost their lives in the 500, Butler was able to continue his way back to Dublin.
