In the Battle of Stromboli during the Dutch War met on January 8, 1676, the fleet of the United Provinces of the Netherlands in the Mediterranean Sea off the north coast of Sicily on a fleet of the Kingdom of France.

The Battle

The Dutch fleet under Michiel de Ruyter comprised 19 ships of the line, including a Spanish. She pushed open the French Mediterranean fleet under Abraham Duquesne with 20 ships of the line. The French attacked from windward, but could not break through the closed line of the Dutch. The battle ended in a draw.

Both fleets met in the Battle of Augusta each other again.
