Battlelore

Battlelore is a Finnish metal band from Lappeenranta. Their lyrics deal almost exclusively with events and people from the Tolkien 's universe, the fantasy world of the author JRR Tolkien. According to Jyri Vahvanen the band's name is based on the main theme of Tolkien's work, the battles (English battle ) in conjunction with folklore. The group itself describes its music as Epic Fantasy Metal. Since October 2011, the band is inactive.

History

The music group was founded in 1999 by Jyri Vahvanen which had already been Moredhel as co-founder of the band Horna, and Miika Kokkolan. Published in the same year promo CD Warrior's Tale was not well received by the record companies and was even referred to by Jyri Vahvanen as "bad". With Dark Fantasy Battlelore 2000 dared to try again. For this, the student Kaisa Jouhki was asked einzusingen high clear voice, as a counterpart to the deep, harsh male vocals. From then on she immediately rose, however, as a permanent member of Battlelore. For the record label Napalm Records three more songs were played and the group then contracted.

In the fall of 2001 was the first album ... Where the Shadows Lie in the Music - Bros. Studios in which originated the promos already taken. Guitarist Tommi Havo then left the band for personal reasons and was replaced after a while by Jussi Rautio.

The second album Sword 's Song was released in spring 2003. Use this material in the luggage Battlelore toured as part of The Magic of Angels Festival Tour 2003 for the first time by Germany, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.

Beginning of 2004, then the DVD The Journey. It contained a roughly half-hour concert, which was recorded in Finland Tavastia Club, music videos as well as interviews with the band members. Then, vocalist Patrik Mennander the band to concentrate on its work as the frontman of the group Ruoska. His last appearance with the band took place at Ring * Con in Bonn.

With support from the guest vocalist Tomi Mykkänen and guest bassist Timo Honkanen Battlelore completed their European tour Atlantis Lovelorn. For personal reasons, then left in 2005 with Miika Kokkolan in turn a member of the band. Looking for a new singer and a new bass player guest musicians was asked unceremoniously at the two and both have since started to firm members of the band. In the same year released their third studio album Battlelore Third Age of the Sun.

In February 2007 the fourth album Evernight appeared. This plate was the guitarist and lyricist Jyri Vahvanen referred to afterwards as " cryptic album", as it is no direct reference to Tolkien's world might be taken, and the lyrics are so universally interpretable.

On 26 September 2008, the fifth studio album titled The Last Alliance was published. In contrast to the previous album, this disc refers back directly amplified on Tolkien's works. The title The Last Alliance refers to a loud Vahvanen the Last Alliance of Men and Elves, which pulls together in the Second Age against the Dark Lord Sauron to war (mentioned in The Lord of the Rings ), but also involve that Battlelore have with this fifth album fulfilled their contract with Napalm Records and thus an era ends. Whether a change to another record label occurs Vahvanen left open. On the cover of the album Sauron is depicted, with the ring of power on finger, created by the German illustrator Ingo Römling. The Last Alliance also appeared as a limited version, which includes a DVD showing a live performance of the group in the " Metal Female Voices Festival 2007". In 2011 they released their new album Doombound, again under Napalm Records. A version in digipack contains a DVD of the ten-year -anniversary, with music videos and live performances from the years 2008 and 2009.

On October 21, 2011 Battlelore explained at the end of her performance at the Metal Female Voices Fest to suspend indefinitely the band. At the same time was emphasized that this was not a band resolution, but they wanted to just focus on other things in life, and "with more creative energy in the future" would be back. This was announced two days later announced on the band's website.
