The Bavaria Yachts is a sports boat yard for sail and power boats in gable, Bavaria.

Company History

The company was founded in 1978 by window manufacturers Winfried Herrmann and yacht charter broker Josef Meltl. In 2006 it employed 600 people and produced approximately 3,500 sailing and motor yachts. This was the Bavaria Yachts one of the largest yacht manufacturers in Europe and the largest series shipyard in Germany. In the field of yachts from 30 to 55 feet, the company is one of the three world leaders.

In June 2007, the U.S. private equity firm Bain Capital took over the company from the founders. The purchase price was not disclosed, according to press reports, he was from 1.1 to 1.3 billion euros and was largely financed by debt at the expense of the company. In the wake of the economic crisis, the company's sales went in the years 2008 and 2009 by more than 250 million euros to 90 million euros. Bain Capital was in October 2009 after a debt -section control to the U.S. hedge fund Anchorage Advisors and Oaktree Capital Management from which each took a 45 percent stake.

In August 2010, the liquidator appointed by the new owners, former car manager Jens Ludmann started his work as Chairman of the Board, who had previously been working as Chief Engineer at Ford. An agreement for the acquisition of the Italian Cantiere del Pardo was signed between the two marks Dufour and Grand Soleil in December 2010. This should create additional posts in Italy and France.

In April 2013, Constantin von Bülow, was a senior vice president, co-owner of Oaktree, the new CEO of Bavaria. Ludmann and chief marketing officer Haico van der Luyt left the company. Despite imported under Ludmann new models, the production capacity was fully utilized at this time only to 30 percent, as a production target for the year of 1200 boats was specified. Model program

The Virtess 42, the first flybridge of Bavaria, was developed in cooperation with the Italian designer team Too design.
