Beatrice of Castile (1242–1303)
Beatrice of Castile (* 1242, † October 27, 1303 ) was a princess of Castile and 1253-1279 Queen of Portugal.
Beatrix was born in 1242 as the daughter of King Alfonso X the Wise of Castile and María Guillén de Guzmán. Since 1247, her father was elected king of the Holy Roman Empire, her half-brother was King Sancho IV, Reckless.
1253 she married King Alfonso III. of Portugal, who had just his first wife, Matilda of Boulogne violated. She became so as a wife, but not as regent in its own right Portuguese Queen.
It is not to be confused with Beatrice of Castile (1293-1359), a daughter of her half-brother Sancho, who was as wife of Alfonso IV 1325-1357 also Queen of Portugal.
