Bédouès

Bédouès is a commune with 291 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Lozere department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the canton of Florac and the Local Government Association, Pays de Florac.

Geography

Bédouès is in the Gévaudan in south-central massif in the Cévennes National Park, in the valley of the upper reaches of the Tarn, 84 kilometers north of Montpellier, 21 km south-east of Mende and 15.4 kilometers southwest of Mount Lozère, between the neighboring communities Cocurès the east and Florac. The Runes flows on the territory of the commune in the Tarn. The hamlet of Saint -Julien- du- Gourg and Monteils belong to the community.

History

Bédouès 1352 was mentioned as Bedoescus documented and known in the 17th century Bedoese. Pope Urban V (1310-1370) was a collegiate church in 1363 Bédouès built over the graves of his parents. The fortified church stands on a rock at the Tarn. She was surrounded by a wall with four towers. Matthieu Merle (1548-1584), a captain of the Huguenots, captured the collegiate church in 1580 during the Wars of Religion. His troops looted and pillaged. Culture and sights

Castle Le Miral ( Château du Miral ) was built in the late 13th century. Economy

The mine de Ramponnenche was founded in 1840 as Galenitmine. At the beginning of the 20th century there was zinc promoted. In 1932, sphalerite and galena for the mining company Génolhac was promoted. From 1953 to 1961 was for the barite mining company Ramponnenche, which has its headquarters in Florac, promoted and edited. When closing in January 1961, the plant employed 62 workers.
