Le Pompidou

Le Pompidou is a commune of the département of Lozère in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. Administratively, it is assigned to the Canton Barre-des -Cévennes and the district Florac.

Geography

The mountain village with 175 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is located on the ridge Corniche des Cévennes on the southern edge of the Cevennes between Florac and Saint -Jean -du -Gard and approximately 70 kilometers north- north -west from the city of Montpellier.

History

The place name derives from the Occitan word pompidor (French palier ). This refers to a platform which is accessed via a staircase.
