Beirut-Marathon

The Beirut Marathon ( BLOM ) is a marathon that takes place in Beirut since 2003. It is organized by the Beirut Marathon Association, a non-governmental non-profit organization. The program also includes a ten- kilometer run and wheelchair race on the marathon distance and over ten kilometers.

History

The run was set up by May El -Khalil in life that their goal is to provide a marathon in Beirut on the legs, realized, although she was run over by a minibus 2001 during training and seriously injured. To date, she is the head of organization.

2006, the run after the assassination of Pierre Gemayel Jr. was postponed for a week. 2010, there was a three -kilometer race for parliamentarians of all stripes, and Prime Minister Saad Hariri launched over ten kilometers. The locals Hussein Awadah presented in seventh with 2:20:31 h on a Lebanese record.

Route

The start is on the Wafic - Sinno Street since 2011. First, it comes at the Paris Avenue along the Mediterranean Sea in the western part of the city, then Saeb Salam Boulevard on the racecourse, where a loop is completed to the south. East of Horch parks you return to the racecourse. It zigzags it comes to the northeast in the suburb of Bourj Hammoud. Parallel to the coast to a turning point leading eastward route connects. In Antelias, at km 33, you make returns and now follows the coast westward to the finish on the square of the martyrs.

The route is flat, but makes many runners to create the sultry heat, on account of which the start is scheduled at 7 clock in the morning.
