Bekau

Mouth, on the drains the Bekau from the main pumping station Bekmünde in the sturgeon

The Bekau is a northern (right ) side of the river sturgeon in the district of Steinburg.

It is about 26 km length of the longest tributary of the sturgeon, unless you count along the lengths of Bramau and Osterau. The Bekau rises near Christinenthal. From there it flows south to Looft, bends to the west and then flows south between Dragerborn and Drage through, in a southwesterly direction to the former Kaaksburg over and pass under the A 23 in a southwesterly direction it flows on to Eversdorf over after Krummendiek, from where it flows in a southeasterly direction through Bekdorf and finally at Bekmünde in the sturgeon flows ( river kilometer 60). The course below Bekmünde is straightened; originally meandered around the Bekau in the south to Bekmünde and led half a kilometer further east in the sturgeon.

The Bekau was formerly at least to Kaaksburg - also called Kaakser Au - navigable and affects up to its embankment to get there by the tides. Today, it is particularly regulated by the main pumping station Bekmünde. The water level was formerly regulated by two locks; the coat of arms of Bekmünde has today towards dauf.

The Bekau is a pebble embossed lowland river. Important tributaries are the Mühlenau and Otten büttel mill creek. Its catchment area covers about 14,741 acres.
