History

The place Belegiš has its origins in the 16th century as 23 families settled on the eastern bank of the Danube. There they built a small church for themselves.

The first church was built with rods and mortar, had small windows and was covered with reeds. As the village developed with the time it was necessary to build a larger and more modern church. This second church was built in 1731 on the hill on the Danube, at that time the village had already 230 houses. Due to the ever-changing river course of the Danube to the building of the second church was unstable with time and the church was dilapidated. Thus in 1927 the present church - a little further away from the Danube as the second - built and laid with her and the village center.
