Surduk

Surduk ( Serbian Cyrillic Сурдук; Hungarian Szurdok ) is a belonging to Opština Stara Pazova village in Vojvodina. The place is about 40 km away from Belgrade and 50 km from Novi Sad. The name Surduk derives from the Turkish word meaning " divide" or " abyss ", in reference to a small canyon near Surduk on the Danube. Surduk is one of the five places in the " bank of the Danube villages " to which even the places Banovci Novi, Stari Banovci Banovci - Dunav and Belegiš belong.

As of the 2002 census, the village had 1589 inhabitants. First of all Serbs, but also some Roma, Croats, Slovaks and Hungarians live here. The average age is quite high, with 43 years.

A large observation tower, formerly a lighthouse, is an important landmark. Also worth seeing is the old orthodox church of Saint Nicholas, which was built in 1816.

Was Surduk, among others, also for the film Black Cat, White Cat.
