Bellevue is located in the U.S. state of Nebraska in Sarpy County. It is the oldest and third largest city in the entire state.

According to the United States Census 2010 Bellevue has 50,137 inhabitants.

Location

The city is located on the border of Nebraska to Iowa and about 12 km south of Omaha. The Nebraska State Route 370 runs east to west through the city.

History

Bellevue arose from a 1822 founded the " Missouri Fur Company " fur trading post. It was named by the first settlers, the beautiful view of the (French: "belle vue " ) on the Missouri River were impressed. In the 1850s, Bellevue experienced a building boom, in the course of a Presbyterian church, a hotel, a bank and private homes were built. On February 23, 1855 Bellevue officially became a self-governing city. Since Omaha was raised to the capital of the region, fell Bellevues Population figures again. It was not until the establishment of the Bellevue College in the 1880s and the completion of the Fort Crook by the United States Army in 1896 secured its existence. 1921 Fort Crook was extended by an airfield in 1924 and renamed Offutt Field. In 1948 it was to Offutt Air Force Base and secured work in the region. From 1940 to 1970, therefore, the population of Bellevue's rose from 1,200 to over 20,000.
