Belvidere (pronounced ˌ bɛlvɨ dɪər ) is a city and county seat of Boone County in the north of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2000 Belvidere had 20,820 inhabitants, an estimate in 2005 showed a population of 24,593.
Belvidere is part of the metropolitan area of Rockford.
History
The U.S. Post Office Belvidere is a historic building in the center of Belvidere. It was built in 1911 and was incorporated on 11 May 2000, with the number 00,000,473 in the National Register of Historic Places.

Belvidere is located on the Kishwaukee River in the center of northern Illinois near the Wisconsin border.
