Benedetto Brin

Benedetto Brin ( born May 17, 1833 in Turin, † May 24, 1898 in Rome ) was an Italian admiral. He is considered the creator of modern Italian Navy.

Life

Benedetto Brin was a trained marine engineer. In 1873 he became Secretary of State under Secretary of the Navy Pacoret Simone de Saint Bon and designed a number of warships. After 1876 a left-wing government came to power, he was made to the Secretary of the Navy.

In this role, he set the fleet program developed by Admiral de Saint Bon around with some modifications. Under his leadership, the political hitherto rather weak Italian shipbuilding industry took a big upswing. The Italian fleet developed and completed in all its components for the first time in a systematic way. Benedetto Brin is also regarded as the founder of the Naval Academy of Livorno. He remained under various governments a total of eleven years in his post, sometimes sat Ferdinando Acton the work of Brin in its meaning continues.
