Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa

Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa (* June 27, 1893 in Granada ( Nicaragua), † April 4, 1959 ) was from May 26 to August 15, 1947 President of Nicaragua.

Life

His parents were Encarnación Sacasa Cuadra Lacayo and Daniel Bermúdez. His sister was Angela Sacasa Cuadra, who was married to her nephew Roberto Sacasa Sarria.

He studied law and worked as a notary. Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa was a member of the Partido Liberal Nacionalista. Somoza was Leonardo Argüello Barreto Parliament declared incompetent and Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa appoint as President. Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa was not recognized by the Government of the United States or a Central American government, nor of the Organization of American States. In Parliament and in the public he was known as Muñeca gorda ( fat puppet ) of Somoza. On July 5, 1947 Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa decreed on the instructions of Somoza García, the main party leaders of the Partido Socialista Nicaragüense on Ometepe, members would belong to a political strange grouping, which are prohibited by the Constitution. On August 3, 1947 a new Constituent Assembly was elected. At the election vervassungsgebende meeting was attended by less than ten percent of the population. On the day of the co- stepping the Constituent Assembly elected these Víctor Manuel Román y Reyes, a nephew of Anastasio Somoza Reyes, the father of Anastasio Somoza García. Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa had resigned earlier. Under Víctor Manuel Román y Reyes was Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa Minister for Minister for Development and Public Works.
