Bennett (British Columbia)

Bennett is an abandoned village on Lake Bennett in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

It was built during the Gold Rush of the Klondike River in the years 1897-99 at the north end of the trail through the Coast Mountains over the Chilkoot and White Pass. The data coming from the ports of Dyea and Skagway prospectors accumulated here their material and built or bought boats for onward journey on the Yukon River to the gold fields in Dawson. After the gold rush, the settlement quickly lost importance and was abandoned.

On July 6, 1899, coming from Skagway train to the White Pass and Yukon Railway reached the village. Even today there are in Bennett a stop which is served in the summer months.

Was named the place after James Gordon Bennett, a New York newspaper publisher.
