Benny Urquidez

Benny "The Jet" Urquidez ( born June 20, 1952 in Tarzana, California) is an American martial artist, trainer and actor.

Sporting career

Benny Urquidez began at the age of five years with boxes on. Next, he started karate, where he was awarded 1st Dan at 14. Gradually he got dan grades in eight other martial arts. In the 70s he began his career in full-contact karate. In 1976 he became world champion in the lightweight in the PKA (Professional Karate Association). Later he joined the WKA (World Karate Association) and won world titles there in several weight classes (lightweight, super lightweight and welterweight ).

Urquidez graduated 200 professional bouts, winning 57 of them by knockout. He won 63 title fights. His trademark is the backflip, which he fully performed after each victory.

He stayed for 27 years and is the reigning champion for the longest time world champion of all professional sports.

His last fight took place in 1993, when he - at the age of 42 - to 25 - year-old Japanese welterweight world champion Yoshihisa Tagami defeated.

Movies

Since 1981, Urquidez appeared in numerous films. However, his roles have little to no dialogue, for many fight scenes. He became famous as Jackie Chan's adversary in the movies Powerman and Action Hunter.

Coach

Opened in 1984 with his brother- Urquidez Blinky Rodriguez, also a professional kickboxer, in the Hollywood Jet Center, where he teaches martial artist, actor and stuntman. His students include Nicolas Cage, Tom Cruise, John Cusack, Louis Gossett Jr., Woody Harrelson, Michael Keaton, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, David Lee Roth, Rene Russo, Kurt Russell, Patrick Swayze and Mark Wahlberg.
