Benoît Delbecq

Benoît Delbecq (born 1966 in Paris ) is a French jazz pianist and composer who often uses the technique of the prepared piano.

Life and work

Is Delbecq as a pianist in contemporary classical piano music, among other things trained by John Cage, Gyorgy Ligeti and Conlon Nancarrow. He was one of the founding members of several groups, including the Quartet Painting ( with Steve Argüelles ) and the Recyclers ( with Argüelles and Noël Akchoté or Corin Curschellas ). With Serge Adam, he worked in the big band Quoi de Neuf Docteur and jazz Mic Mac project, with which he toured Central Africa.

Furthermore, he worked among others with Evan Parker, Steve Lacy, Derek Bailey, Marc Ducret, Gianni Gebbia, Louis Sclavis, François Houle and Lukas Ligeti together. He also composed music for film, ballet and theater music, and performed with the poet Olivier Cadiot. In 2010, he guested in the Steve Lehman Octet at the Moers Festival. His trio album The Sixth Jump filed by the New York Times and AllAboutJazz as one of the best albums of the year 2010. Just as the album Circles and Calli Grams was awarded a Grand Prix International de l' Académie Charles Cros. In 2012 he played with Crescendo in Blue an album with Duke Ellington transcriptions rarely performed pieces from his suite and ballet music.
