Benur Pashayan

Benur Paschajan, Armenian Բենուր Փաշայան, ( born November 14, 1959 in Asawreti at Akhalkalaki, Georgian SSR) is a former Soviet wrestler and sports official of Armenian descent. He was 1982 and 1983 world champion in Greco-Roman flyweight.

Career

Benur Paschajan began as a teenager in Yerevan with the rings. He concentrated on the Greco- Roman style. In 1977 he was a Soviet Junior Champion and then used at the Junior World Championships this year in Las Vegas. There, he won the paper weight before Todor Yordanov of Bulgaria and Takahashi Yamagishi from Japan. In 1978 he was re- Soviet junior champion in the paper weight before his Armenian compatriot Nesserjan. His next assignment was performed but only at the Junior World Championship 1979 in Haparanda, where he was world champion flyweight title against Heiko Röll secured from the GDR and Stig A. Lundell from Sweden.

Benur Paschajan has established itself among the top also with the seniors in the USSR soon. With Vakhtang Blagidse however, he had in 1980 a wrestler before him, also the Olympic and European champion this year.

1981 benur Paschajan was used at the European Championships in Gothenburg flyweight and was there with wins over Heiko Röll, Stig A. Lundell, Leszek Majkowski, Poland, Taisto Halonen, Finland and Lajos Rácz, Hungary with zero failure points champions. In the 1981 World Championship Vakhtang Blagidse was reinstated. Benur Paschajan but also went to the Universities World Cup 1981 in Bucharest flyweight at the start and also won there before Nicu Ganga from Romania, Bang Dae -du from South Korea and Atsuji Miyahara of Japan.

1982 benur Paschajan was in Varna first European flyweight champion before Gheorghe Stefan, Romania, Roman Kierpacz, Poland and Lajos Rácz and took in Katowice and the world title in this weight class before Ljubomir Zekow, Bulgaria, Bang Dae -du, Lajos Rácz and Stefan Marian from Romania.

1983 started benur Paschajan only at the World Championships in Kiev, where she won again in 1982 after the world title at flyweight. He let it Erol Kemah from Turkey, Ljubomir Zekow, Taisto Halonen and Roman Kierpacz behind.

In the Soviet Cup in 1984 benur Paschajan was beaten by Minsaid Tasetdinow, which was then used at the European Championships. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles not a Soviet wrestler could go to the start, because these games were boycotted by the Soviet Union. Benur Paschajan still tried to qualify for participation in the World Cup and the European Championship in 1985, but could not prevail against Minsaid Tasetdinow. Benur Paschajan went at every international championship, which he denied, as the winner of the mat.

He finished in 1986 his international career Ringer and completed a physical education teacher education. Subsequently he worked in Yerevan as a wrestler trainer. In 1999 and 2000 he was President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia.
