Berengar of Namur

Berengar ( † after 924 ) was a count in Lommegau and May Field in the 10th century. His family origin is unclear, however, he is often associated with the family of the Unruochinger.

Berengar I. was married to a daughter of the powerful in the northern Great Reginar Lotharingia, from whom he may receive the Lommegau as dowry. When Count this pagus he is in two charters of the East Frankish king Louis the Child, issued in the years 907 and 908 called. Berengar was the rebellion of his brother Giselbert against King Charles III. the simple not and was therefore with him in the war. 924 he could capture Giselbert, but it was soon released, after he had received one of the sons Reginars II hostage. After that of Berengar nothing survived.

The next mentioned in Lommegau count was Robert I., who was probably a son of Berengar. Robert I. built the castle of Namur, after which the county of Lommegau was named in the future.

In Berengar's services was the warrior and later saints Gerhard von Brogne.
